Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

Where do I find Luma after installing?
Luma runs in the menu bar. Look for the sun icon at the top right of your screen and click it to open the controls. If it's hidden by other menu bar items, re-launch Luma from Launchpad or Spotlight to open the Dashboard directly.
How do I open Settings?
Click the Luma icon in the menu bar, then the gear icon at the bottom of the panel. If the icon is hidden, re-launching Luma from Launchpad opens the Dashboard, where Settings is one click away.

Display & Colour

My display isn't adjusting.
Two things to check: first, Luma may be paused because a colour-critical app is in the foreground (look for a Paused indicator in the menu bar panel). Second, the current time might fall outside your active schedule. Check Settings > Schedule.
The colours look too warm or not warm enough.
Open Settings > Curve to adjust the intensity or switch between the four built-in presets. You can also drag the anchor points on the curve editor to create a completely custom schedule that matches your preference exactly.
Luma stopped working after waking from sleep.
This can occasionally happen if macOS applies its own display profile on wake. Toggling Luma off and on from the menu bar panel usually restores it immediately. If it happens often, please contact us.

Philips Hue

How do I connect my Philips Hue bridge?
Open Settings > Hue and follow the on-screen steps. When prompted, press the large round button on top of your bridge within 30 seconds. Your bridge must be on the same local network as your Mac.
My Hue lights stopped syncing.
Check that your bridge is powered on and reachable on your network. If the connection was lost, open Settings > Hue and reconnect. In rare cases you may need to press the bridge button again to re-authorise the connection.

Menu Bar

The Luma icon is hidden in my menu bar.
macOS hides menu bar icons when there isn't enough space. Re-launching Luma from Launchpad or Spotlight opens the Dashboard where you can adjust all settings without needing the icon. To permanently manage menu bar clutter, apps like Bartender or Ice can help.

App Exclusions

Luma keeps pausing when I open a specific app.
Luma pauses automatically for apps in your Excluded Apps list, which is intended for colour-critical apps where accurate colours matter. To remove an app from the list, open Settings > Excluded Apps and click the minus button next to it.
How do I exclude an app that isn't on the default list?
Open Settings > Excluded Apps, click the + button, and choose the app. Luma will pause automatically whenever that app is in the foreground.

Privacy

Does Luma collect any data about me?
No. Luma does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data. All your preferences stay on your device. See our Privacy Policy for the full details.
